Subject: It happens every summer! (+ a new video 👀)
I’m back this week with another message about the seasons!
Two weeks ago, I shared my thoughts about how to tend to your business when the season you’re in personally doesn’t align with the season it is outside. You can read that email here.
Today, I want to forget about your business and focus on you.
Specifically, I want to set aside all of your work stressors to give you space to think about your summer plans.
Summer Solstice is on June 20th—that’s only one week away!
If you haven’t scheduled time off during the summer months yet, may I gently suggest you read this email and do it today?
If I don’t schedule days off months in advance, I’ll fill them up with client appointments. Then, when I get into July and realize I haven’t planned any time off for summer fun, I’ll feel too guilty to cancel my client sessions. Regret and bitterness don’t taste nearly as delicious as watermelon and lemonade.
Now is the perfect time to pause and set intentions for the summer season.
Without clear intentions, we’ll likely barrel through the next three months without sinking our toes in warm sand or diving into a crisp lake on a sunny afternoon.
This is one of the destructive byproducts of colonial capitalism.
Around the Industrial Revolution, we (humans) stopped synching our bodies and schedules with nature. We started working in factories, clocking in and out, 9 to 5, Monday to Friday, all year round.
So began the brainwashing that would trick us into believing our bodies are machines that exist separate from the seasons.
Let’s think about it…
- Do you adjust your working hours with the seasons?
- Do you set goals based on fiscal quarters or natural seasons?
- Do the seasons inform the type of projects you’re working on?
- Do you let yourself sleep more or less, depending on the season?
Until recently, my answer was, “…that’s an option?”
We’ve been conditioned to ignore the seasons by treating every month as exactly the same—with the exception of government-approved holidays, of course.
I don’t want to treat every season exactly the same!
I want to sync with the seasons—staying up late to bask in the summer sunshine, then getting quiet and cozy, and going to bed early in the winter.
But de-conditioning from this deeply ingrained programming to treat every day as the same (“Another day, another dollar!”) is tricky.
One strategy I’m using to reconnect with nature is proactive seasonal intention setting. This fancy-sounding phrase means slowing down and deciding in advance what my priorities are for the upcoming season.
My passion for this topic has inspired me to share this process with my clients, my friends, and, most recently, all the people watching daytime television…
Yes, I’m back on the silver screen! 🤩
I took a hiatus from media appearances while waltzing with my existential crisis unfolding in The Void (more about that here).
Now, I’m back and ready to spread the Deeply Rested gospel with anyone who will listen!
This segment is called Designing Your Joyful Summer.
During the interview, I share…
☀️ Why living out of alignment with the seasons creates stress and anxiety
☀️ The key to realigning our lives with the seasons (hint: it’s about intention)
☀️ 4 simple tips to help you design a joyful summer season this year

In the interview, I discuss the power of choosing one intention for summer joy and one intention for a summer project. Having more than one intention sends me into a stress spiral. But you do you.
Here are my summer intentions:
Joy → Discover as many new swimming spots as possible! I’m making my list of locations now so I can just get in the car and go when the moment arises. Also, we’re taking Fridays off during the summer months to have more time for outdoor adventures.
Project → Launch the Deeply Rested podcast! This project is well underway (and I can’t wait to tell you more about it), but it will require a concentrated effort from me this summer to reach the finish line.
Okay, it’s your turn!
I’d love to know your intentions for the summer.
🧑🎨 What project are you excited to work on?
🎉 What are you going to do to cultivate JOY?
🗓️ Have you planned time off for spontaneous summer fun?
Hit “reply” and let me know.
I’d love to be your summer accountability buddy.
Here’s to basking in the sunshine,
Maegan
