Subject:Spring fever? Here’s why I’m still hibernating 😴
Spring is in the air!
People are coming out of hibernation, energized and ready to take bold action. My world is a flurry of friends and clients creating exciting new offerings.
(I am not one of those people, btw.)
I’m inspired by the creative and courageous energy pulsing around me. For example…
👉 Annie is hosting Moon Circles for childfree woman
👉 Arianna is offering tarot readings for witchy business owners
👉 Lori started a Substack for HSPs who want to change the world
👉 Laura is opening a co-working collective for therapists in Houston
👉 Robyn is growing her Helpers & Healers community in Portland
👉 Gina is creating a Circle of Compassion virtual women’s group
👉 Tarzan is launching her new-and-improved Power Mastermind
👉 Amber is hosting her Anti-Perfectionist Writing Party in June
And these are just the people I’m thinking of off the top of my head!
If you’re creating something new, hit “reply” and tell me about it.
What are you creating? How is it going? I want to know!
If you’re not creating something new, I want you to know you’re in good company. I’m not creating anything new, either.
It’s not that I don’t want to create something new. Quite the contrary—I have three ideas brewing that I’m desperate to bring to life.
(Hint: retreats, sabbaticals, small group for folks in The Void™)
… but I know that now isn’t the time to act on my ideas.
I don’t know how I know; I just know.
The truth lives in my bones, and my bones say, “Go back to bed.”
The truth is that I’m still hibernating. But seasonal pressure to jump on the “make some new shit” bandwagon is intense. All that pressure builds up in my head and threatens to override the truth.
It sounds like this:
“But Maegan, now is the time! It’s Spring! Everyone else is doing it. Also, if you don’t start now, you won’t have anything ready for the Fall. You don’t want to lag behind, do you? What if someone else steals your idea? What if you become irrelevant? What if you run out of money? What if your best days are behind you, and everything from this point forward is a big, fat failure?”
Well, that is… depressing.
This mental nonsense runs rampant when the season I’m in (winter) doesn’t align with the season it is outside (spring). It’s like getting sucked into a quicksand pit of compare and despair.
I’m learning how to save myself from the quicksand.
(Just went down a Google rabbit hole about how to escape quicksand. Needed to fact-check this metaphor. It works!)
Don’t panic. Stop struggling. Breathe. Slowly shimmy yourself to the surface and gently pull yourself to dry land. And whatever you do, don’t rely on someone else to pull you out of the hole!
I love that last part.
While I’m all for community support, self-trust is the muscle I need to strengthen to save myself from external pressure.
We must hold steady to our inner-knowing, always!
If your inner knowing tells you now is the time to create, throw yourself into the creative flow! If your inner knowing tells you now is the time to rest, give yourself permission to stay under the covers.
Trust that you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be right now.
And listen, if you are making new things right now and it’s not going so well, I want you to know that half the people on that list I shared are struggling.
Being in a creative flow isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. It’s hard work. You might feel like you’re failing or like no one wants what you’re creating. Persevere! You’re in the messy middle. Patience and persistence will get you to the other side.
As for me… it’s 4:23pm, and I’m still wearing my bathrobe. 🤷♀️
We’re all doing just fine.
Warmly,
Maegan
