Subject: Something not quite right? This might be the reasonÂ
Why does your business feel incomplete?Â
My knees popped as I crouched underneath the table, running my hands under the edge of the rug and around the back of the chair leg.
“Did you find it?” Jonathan’s voice floated down from above, frustration seeping into what had otherwise been an enjoyable evening of puzzling.
“No,” I grumbled from beneath the table, “it’s not here.”
We’d reached the end of our 1000-piece adventure… only to discover we were missing the final piece of the puzzle. One glaring, gaping hole in an otherwise pristine work of modern art.
That damn hole was mocking us.
“Oh, you think you know what you’re doing? Do you think that just because you followed the rules, you’d end this evening feeling happy and satisfied? HA.”
Obviously, we got over it and moved on with our evening.Â
But the mystery of the missing puzzle piece reminded me of the struggle I felt for years in my business…
The nagging feeling of emptiness that followed me from project to project, no matter how hard I worked or how many business milestones I checked off the list.
Listen, I know how to follow instructions.
My favorite thing about graduate school was the degree plan. I loved the clarity of what to do next and the assurance that there would be a reward when I reached the end of the journey.
The puzzle pieces were all right there, perfectly numbered for easy assembly.
When I started my private practice after graduate school, I craved the structure and predictability of that degree plan.Â
This is why many of us buy how-to courses and join group programs after starting our businesses. You think these programs contain all of the puzzle pieces you need to create a stress-free business and an organized “degree plan” to help you put them all together.
But inevitably, you reach the end of the program, only to discover that the box did not contain all of the pieces of your puzzle.
It might look like this:
>> You finally finish that DIY course and publish your new website, only to feel blah and uninspired by what you’ve created.
>> You raise your rates and surpass your income goals, but you still feel unhappy and terrified that you don’t have enough money.Â
>> You complete the two-year certification program, only to realize you don’t magically feel more confident or capable—in fact, your imposter syndrome has kind of gotten worse.
>> You successfully launch your group program and stop providing one-on-one services (the online business dream!), but now you feel lonely, aimless, and bored.
These are examples from my journey, and I’m guessing you could add your own litany of business disappointments to this list.Â
For years, I followed the same pattern:
- Set the goal.Â
- Pay someone to teach me how to reach the goal.Â
- Do whatever they tell me to do.Â
- Receive lots of compliments about it being so great.
- Cry in the shower because ugh seriously why does this still NOT FEEL RIGHT?Â
You’ve done everything you’re supposed to do, but no matter how hard you try, you still can’t find the final piece of your goddamn puzzle.Â
Now, if you’re anything like me, this is the point where you start blaming yourself.Â
Maybe you didn’t try hard enough. Or maybe this is a sign you’re just not cut out for entrepreneurship. Maybe you’ve spent the last ten years betting on yourself for nothing.
Mmk, we said it, and now we’re moving on.Â
Everything you did to get to where you are today was perfect.Â
You have not done anything wrong and you are not behind.Â
You are right on time, and because of all of the work you’ve done to get to where you are today, you’re ready to hear this:Â
The final piece of your puzzle is waiting inside of you.
You’re not going to find what you’re looking for in any course, group program, or fancy mastermind.
What you’re looking for lives in your soul—it’s the intuitive wisdom you know exists but don’t know how to weave into your business.Â
It’s the integration of your spiritual beliefs, your intelligence, and your deep desire to be of service all woven together into a single tapestry that represents your unique work in the world.Â
That’s the intersection of my magic—helping spiritually curious entrepreneurs find that missing puzzle piece by learning to listen to their own intuitive wisdom.Â
Once you find it, we can use our keen minds to place that puzzle piece into your business in a way that satisfies your soul and your bottom line.Â
Because yes, both of those things matter.Â
It’s the weaving of these threads—the spiritual and the strategic—that allows you to create conventional business success and feel a deep sense of satisfaction in your soul.Â
I want you to have both.Â
You can absolutely do this work on your own, but if you’d like a guide to travel with you on this journey, I have capacity for a small handful of one-on-one clients this spring.Â
Click here to read about my one-on-one offerings.
(There’s a 12-week immersive engagement for those ready for a deep dive, but if you want to test the waters or just have a single question, you can also book a single coaching session here.)Â
You can reply to this email if you have any questions.Â
In the meantime, I will leave you with this very unsatisfying photo of the missing puzzle piece that inspired this newsletter.
We’re pretty sure one of our dogs ate the missing piece when we weren’t looking. I hope the puzzle gods will forgive us for this transgression.
I hope to meet you soon,
Maegan
