Subject: gift for your future self
I love sending emails to my future self.Â
Helpful remindersÂ
Notes of encouragementÂ
Links for concert tickets going on saleÂ
Articles I foolishly believe my future self will want to readÂ
If I have a hunch there’s something I need to know in the future, I type it in an email and schedule it to be delivered to my future self.Â
Usually, these emails are short and sweet. But when I’m feeling reflective, I like to go deeper.
Imagine how it would feel to receive an email today that you wrote to yourself last year about how you are doing right now. These emails help me slow down and reflect on my journey. They are precious gifts for my busy brain.Â
This year, I’m forgoing a formal annual review process. It’s been a wild year of profound personal growth and evolution. Trying to analyze it on paper just doesn’t feel right. Instead, I’m returning to what I know works for me and writing myself a love note I’ll receive this time next year.Â
If you’re feeling up for it, I’d love for you to write a note to your future self, too.
Here’s how I’m doing it this year…Â
First, I go to this website, which is designed specifically for sending emails to your future self.Â
It looks like this 👇
To keep it simple, I answer these four questions:Â
👉 In general, what’s happening in your life right now?
👉 What are you struggling with right now?
👉 What do you feel grateful for right now?
👉 What intentions are you holding for the future?Â
When I finish answering these questions, I add any final thoughts and notes of encouragement for my future self. Then, I select delivery for one year in the future and hit send.Â
Voila! That’s it.Â
I just wrote and sent this email to myself with a note at the beginning to please ignore all typos and grammatical errors. It took about 20 minutes. I can’t wait to receive it next year.Â
Anywho, this is my advice for you today… Â
Forget about what you’re supposed to do at the end of the year. Just write your future self a sweet letter from the heart. That’s the only thing that really matters.Â
Talk soon,
Maegan
