Subject: Look Mom, I’m on TV! 🤩
A few months after moving to Portland in 2016, I received a phone call from a producer at my local ABC television station. She was looking for a relationship expert to be a guest on their afternoon talk show and thought I’d be a good fit.
I was really confused and just a smidge freaked out.
Me? Why?! I’m not special! And I just moved here! No one knows me! EVERYONE’S GOING TO FIND OUT I’M A GIANT FRAUD! AHHHH!
For a hot second, I considered throwing my cell phone out the window and pretending like she never called. Luckily, my wiser self prevailed.
Maegan, let’s break this down logically…
This producer found my website on Google thanks to my investment in SEO. She was drawn to my conversational copy and blog posts, and she believed my credentials gave me enough credibility to be a televised expert.
The only thing holding me back from stepping into the spotlight was fear.
I decided to go for it… and guess what? IT WAS FINE!
Actually, it was better than fine, it was fabulous. These TV appearances added phenomenal credibility to my website and opened the door to countless opportunities over the years.
Was I terrified? Yes. Did I think I was going to projectile vomit on the host? YEP. You can click here to watch my first ever segment, if you want to see what it looks like to be scared shitless but doing it anyways.
I’ve been a regular guest on this show ever since!
Last month, I convinced them to let me talk about something other than couples and sex therapy (very exciting for me as I haven’t been seeing therapy clients for almost a year).

Now, here’s the lesson I want to share with you today…
The main thing I’ve learned from being behind-the-scenes on the TV show for the past 5+ years? They really, really, really need GUESTS!
Think about it…
These shows air fresh episodes 5 days per week with 3-5 short interviews on every episode. That’s upwards of 25 unique guests every week. That’s 100 guests every month!
YOU SHOULD BE ONE OF THOSE 100 GUESTS. OBVIOUSLY.
(Sorry to yell but I feel REALLY passionate about this!)
To make it easy for you to step into the local TV spotlight, I’ve recorded a super short (and super simple) tutorial for you about how you can pitch yourself to your local afternoon talk show.

It brings me ultimate joy to help therapists step into the spotlight!
If you use this strategy to book an interview, let me know so I can celebrate with you.
