Subject: it’s complicated, but awesome

“Hey Maegan, what do you do on your retreats?”

For years, it’s been hard for me to answer that question because these retreats don’t fit neatly into a clearly defined box.

I used to work inside clearly defined boxes, and it was awesome!

When you’re using a method or model that people know about, there’s ease in communicating what you do in a way that others understand.

For me, that used to sound like, “I’m an EFT and AASECT certified couples and sex therapist.” Bam. If you were in the therapy field or were a discerning client who knew what you were looking for, that sentence immediately communicated what I did and how I did it. That was convenient AF.

But sometimes, we outgrow other people’s models.

Sometimes, we feel a deep yearning to create something new.

That’s what’s been happening with my retreats.

I have a huge toolbox of trainings, methods, and experiences that inform how I show up as a facilitator. Years of experience as a therapist, years of spiritual study and apprenticeship, years of training as a business coach. But the threads that weave those skills together come straight from my soul. They are unique to me and cannot be easily described in someone else’s language.

My retreat process began emerging in 2021, and only recently has it started to click in my thinking brain what is actually happening in these spaces.

Which means that for the past five years, the best answer I could give to people who asked me what I did on my retreats was:

“Umm… It’s complicated. But awesome.”

(Truly the most unhelpful response when someone is trying to discern if your offering is right for them, but we’re all doing our best. 😅)

Imagine my delight when I received this card in the mail from Emily, a guest on my recent Fall retreat.

Photo of a greeting card with the words, "It's complicated, but awesome".

She said that this card perfectly captured her experience at the retreat.

It’s complicated because there are so few spaces we can go as business owners that can hold the depth of our inner work (personal) with the complexity of our outer work (professional).

And that’s what these retreats are all about—giving you space for both.

Personally, I’m less interested in helping you sort out the mechanics of your business and more interested in helping you dive deep into yourself—into the places inside of you that know what you’re meant to do next and how you’re meant to do it.

Yes, I promise you those places exist!

Here’s what that looks like in reality:

  • Before the retreat, during your preparation sessions, we’ll explore what’s happening in your business—what’s going well, where you’re feeling challenged or dissatisfied. I’ll help you clarify what big questions you have about your work and set intentions for the retreat that support you in finding the answers in unconventional ways.
  • During the retreat, we don’t talk about your business at all. There are no laptops, mastermind sessions, or strategy workshops. The retreat space is for you. Not just the part of you that owns a business, but the whole of you. We trust that clarity and vision will emerge when we tend to our full selves.
  • After the retreat, during your integration sessions, we’ll bring your business back to the forefront. We’ll explore what you discovered on retreat and create an action plan for integrating that soul wisdom back into your life and business.

It’s like when you get a song stuck in your head and you can’t remember the name of it to save your life. Eventually, you give up and stop trying to think of it. Then, a few hours later, usually when you’re in the shower, the title miraculously pops into your head.

Your retreat experience is like that miraculous shower!

When you pause working on your business, when you make space to tend to your full self, the deepest ah-ha’s about your work bubble to the surface of your consciousness.

So, if we’re not talking about your business during the retreat, what are we doing? How are we spending all of our time?

Great question!

This is where things get juicy—and a little witchy. 😉

This post reveals the five core embodied experiences that make retreats so powerful, and why stepping away from thinking is the key to renewal, alignment, and self-trust.

Subject: Your mind wants to know what you’ll learn—but that’s not the point

People ask me all the time, “What actually happens on your retreats?”

And honestly, it’s a hard question to answer.

Not because I don’t know, but because the kind of transformation that happens on retreat doesn’t come from the part of you that’s asking the question.

Let me explain.

As business owners, we spend an enormous amount of time in our thinking minds. We rely on our executive functioning, our problem-solving brains, our endless ability to analyze, anticipate, and strategize.

Your mind is operating on overdrive, and yet, you live in a world that constantly tells you you don’t know enough.

Take one look at the newsletters in your inbox or the ads in your Instagram feed. You’re being inundated with ads that speak directly to your mind’s fear that you don’t know enough.

Maybe I need to be using a different sales strategy…

Maybe a new marketing system would solve my problems…

Maybe I’m a big fraud and actually have no idea what I’m doing…

And then, your mind comes alive, offering up solid rationale for buying the helpful courses and programs, like a drooling Labrador proudly offering up a soggy tennis ball in the world’s longest game of fetch.

Our minds are exhausted.

And when we hear the word “retreat,” your mind immediately tries to make sense of it: 👉 What will I learn? 👉 What are the objectives and outcomes? 👉 What exactly am I going to get?

That’s how our minds operate. The mind wants data and logical reasoning. The mind wants a clear return on investment. The mind wants to keep you safe. That’s its whole job!

But all of this thinking doesn’t keep us safe.

In this case, the mind’s attempt to keep us safe is actually keeping us stuck in a state of burnout. The medicine we need isn’t to know more or do more—it’s to practice knowing and doing less.

What most of us need to heal, transform, and grow in our lives and businesses isn’t more information.

What we need are more embodied experiences.

Space to feel, to remember, to reconnect with our own wisdom.

That’s what makes retreats magical—not the learning or the doing, but the being with yourself, in your body, with absolutely no need to use your mind!

The Spring Equinox Retreat is designed to give you exactly that: five days away from the noise of your mind and the constant demand to perform so you can return to the wisdom that lives in your body.

During this retreat, I will guide you through a series of experiences designed to quiet your mind and bring you back into your body.

No teaching, no coaching. Just experiencing.

Each moment of this journey is built around five core experiences—five medicines for the parts of you that have been overworked and overlooked.

🔋 Restoration

In our daily lives, we exploit our own energy—constantly drawing from an empty well to keep things running. On retreat, you get to stop pushing and start replenishing. You’ll experience what deep rest actually feels like in your body.

🫂 Connection

Modern entrepreneurship thrives on toxic individualism—the illusion that you have to do everything alone. On retreat, we remember that we’re not meant to do this alone. You’ll experience genuine, authentic connection in a non-hierarchical community, where leadership and vulnerability are shared.

🧭 Alignment

Misalignment manifests as stress, resentment, and a dull sense that you’re living slightly off your true path. Through reflection, movement, and ritual, you’ll reconnect to what’s true—what you want, what you’re ready to release, and what wants to emerge next. You’ll experience alignment as an embodied sensation, not just an idea.

💗 Self-Trust

Most of us have been conditioned to outsource our wisdom to other people. We spend thousands of dollars each year paying coaches and experts to tell us what to do. This retreat is an invitation to rebuild your own inner authority. Every choice you make here is a practice in listening to yourself and trusting that what you hear is enough.

👑 Sovereignty

When you’ve rested, reconnected, realigned, and remembered your self-trust, something powerful emerges: sovereignty. This is the felt experience of being in your full power by standing in clear, grounded authority over your life and business. Once you tap into your sovereignty, everything transforms for the better.

I’m not here to teach you anything you don’t already know. I’m here to help you experience the truth you’ve been too busy to feel.

That’s what my transformational wellness retreats are all about.

If your body is whispering yes — trust that.

Here’s an order of operations you can try on for size:

  1. Acknowledge your curiosity.
  2. Let your soul know you’re listening.
  3. Ask your thinking mind if she has any questions you should ask me about the experience. I’m sure she will, and that’s great! I welcome all of your questions here in my inbox.

The retreat will take place from March 19-26, 2026, near Portland, OR.

Early bird registration for the Spring Retreat is open now, with $1,000 off tuition through Friday, December 5th.

If you want the details, click respond to Maegan at the bottom of this post and I’ll send you everything you need to know.

I trust that I’ll hear from you if the time is right.

Either way, I hope this email gives your mind permission to rest, and reminds you that your body already knows the way forward.

Warmly,
Maegan

Subject: 🌿 Spring Equinox Retreat — early registration is open!

Happy Samhain / Día de los Muertos / Halloween weekend!

This weekend and the coming days are ripe for ritual, release, connection with ancestors, and, of course, tummy aches from too many Nerds Gummy Clusters and/or Fun Size (debatable) Snickers.

Over the past few months, I’ve spent way less time online.

Fewer newsletters. No podcast episodes. Replying to emails like they’re snail mail. This time away from the internet has been a medicine in itself. As I turn inward, soothing my grief and tending to my soul, I can begin to see the shape and structure of the offerings that want to come through me in the next season of my work.

These months in the grief haze have given me a chance to practice taking action based on what feels aligned in the moment, rather than what my mind thinks I should be doing.

Now that I’m stepping back into work, that muscle is being tested.

I’m resisting the conditioning of my colonized, capitalist-indoctrinated mind to plan, plan, plan, and produce, produce, produce.

My intention now is to stay rooted in myself—to stay present and attuned to what wants to come through this moment, instead of anticipating what will be months or years from now.

Rather than saying yes to every future commitment that sounds good, I’m choosing to sit daily at the altar of my life: breathing, releasing, and asking what would be most helpful for me to offer next.

The more I do this, the more ease and clarity flow to me.

I’m reminded of my favorite Rumi quote:

When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of stress and anxiety; if I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without pain. From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me and attracting me. There is a great secret here for anyone who can grasp it.

Beautiful, right?

I think grasping this secret might be my life’s work.

The thing that wants me, is looking for me, right now?

Hosting more in-person retreats!

The most powerful work I’ve done this year was facilitating my Fall retreat in early October. It was transformative, magical, and deeply restorative.

Our guests are sharing their reflections now, and one sentiment keeps coming up again and again:

“This retreat is like five years of therapy in five days.”

I received this feedback last year as well, but I felt too self-conscious to share it publicly. It felt too audacious. Like, who am I to make that claim? What if people think I’m being too bold, too big, too confident?

Well, ya know what…

This past year has been a long, ongoing ceremony of unraveling the old stories that keep me small—and claiming the power of these retreats and my gifts as a facilitator.

On the last day of this retreat, we gather together in an ancient grove of old-growth cedar trees to walk through a rite of passage ceremony. We lay down what we’re releasing and step into what we’re claiming, letting the ripples of our power collide until we feel our whole bodies buzzing with vitality.

And then, we take that energy and move it out into the world.

To be the medicine for these painful times.

To be the lightbearers in the dark.

To offer hope for a better future.

This retreat is the gift I have to offer the world right now, and I’m ready to be unapologetically audacious about sharing this work far and wide.

So,  if you’ve been considering joining one of my retreats for a while, I want to invite you to step into the circle now.

The next retreat is happening Spring Equinox weekend, March 19-23, 2026.

Early registration is open now through Friday, December 5th.

The price for my retreats will increase by $1,000 in January, but this month, I’m holding the door open for anyone who wants to join at 2025 pricing.

If you’d like the details, hit respond to Maegan at the bottom of this post, and I’ll send you all the info!

Thank you for being here, and thank you for doing good work in the world.

Remember to take good care of yourself, too, okay?

Warmly,
Maegan

Subject: The pep talk you need this week.

Don’t let the darkness pull you under.

“Honestly, Maegan, I am so overwhelmed. It feels impossible to focus on my work right now—like my business is the last thing that matters when the world is falling apart.”

Erin’s hands shook as she set her mug down on the saucer. She stared off into the distance, her eyes dull and lifeless.

It startled me.

My sweet friend, usually overflowing with joy and vitality, was acting like a battery barely hanging on at 1%. I’d never seen her so drained and unmoored.

But as I looked around, I realized she was far from unique.

Everywhere I turn, I see darkness and suffering. My friends and clients are scared and exhausted. Showing up for their clients feels impossible when they can barely soothe themselves.

As I sat there with Erin, sipping tea and listening to her share an existential dread I couldn’t counter with any logical argument, I started to panic. Erin was on the fast track to truly burning out and throwing in the towel on her business—not because she didn’t care, but because she couldn’t bring herself to focus on her work when the world was falling apart.

That’s when it hit me: if Erin burns out, every single client she supports will falter… and that might lead to some of those clients throwing in the towel… and how many more people would crumble due to that client giving up?

On and on and on it went.

“Erin, stop,” I reached out and grabbed her hand, “I know you’re tired, but you’re not expendable. We need you.”

This is the refrain that is reverberating in my mind…

We need you.

I’m not saying it’s your individual responsibility to solve the systemic injustices and climate catastrophes we’re watching unfold before our eyes.

That’s impossible.

But together, when we each commit to serving our unique purpose by supporting the people we’re meant to support, we can collectively contribute to the protection, healing, and nourishment of the world we want to live in.

We. Need. You

This moment demands that we step forward with all of our love and compassion as we use our unique medicines to tend to the wounds of our friends and neighbors.

Your business matters now more than ever—for your personal well-being, for your clients, and for all of the people your clients will be able to support and encourage as a result of the support and encouragement you are giving to them.

(And let’s be honest, you’re probably not financially able to stop working. We need to keep making money, too. That’s part of this challenging reality.)

I’ve spent the past few months thinking about how I’m meant to be of service now, and I’ve decided to focus on expanding my one-on-one holistic business coaching offerings.

Unlike traditional business coaching, which focuses on ideas generated by your “business brain” and follows rigid step-by-step strategies, we’ll work together to uncover what’s next for your work using spiritual exploration and anti-capitalist nature-based business practices.

You can read all about holistic business coaching here.

To keep things flexible and accessible, I have two offerings available.

My primary offering is Catalyst, a 12-week private coaching engagement designed to help you reconnect to your intuition, clarify your vision, and clear the obstacles preventing you from reinventing your life and business—even while the world is falling apart.

I have 4 openings for private clients at the current rate.

The second option is a single coaching session—perfect if you want to dip your toes into the woo waters of business coaching with me before committing to a full three months together.

I have a limited number of single sessions available each month, and you can book them directly right here.

I believe in the power of the work you’re doing.

If you feel a nudge that we’re meant to work together, let’s talk.

In the meantime, I hope you’re doing everything possible to nurture your tender heart and protect your energetic boundaries during this chaotic time.

Warmly,
Maegan
