Subject: Your boobs and your business have more in common than you think…
“Mommy, when I grow up, I want to have GIANT BOOBIES!”
This is my family’s favorite Maegan-ism.
Apparently, when I was 5, I went through an embarrassingly long phase where I was obsessed with growing really big boobs.
I’m fascinated by my 5-year-old self now — how did she internalize the “bigger is better” belief SO EARLY in her life?
(I’ll save my sociocultural analysis for another day.)
Not surprisingly, I got roped into the bigger-business-is-always-better belief early in my entrepreneurial career too.
There was a time when I truly believed that I wouldn’t be successful until I was running a 7+ figure business.
I snapped out of my 7-figure-brainwash while scrolling through a Facebook thread where several business owners were having a very serious discussion about becoming members of the Two Comma Club…
And I realized that this was… well… really stupid.
Your gross revenue matters just as much as the size of your boobs. No one cares about them but you.
If it’ll make you feel good to have giant boobies, go for it! I know you can find a surgeon who will make this dream a reality.
If you want to say you own a million dollar business, cool! You can absolutely do that too.
Just remember that gross revenue does not equal money in the bank for you and your family.
And different people need different amounts of money in the bank to live comfortably. So using the same arbitrary financial measuring stick for all businesses is, again, really stupid.
Here’s what I recommend…
Spend some time with your numbers!
Start with your personal finances. Figure out how much you need IN THE BANK (after taxes) at the end of this year to pay for your lifestyle. You now have your personal financial goal (and it’s probably not 7+ figures).
Now take a close look at your business plan to determine how you can earn that much money without working harder than necessary. This might or might not be 7+ figures gross revenue depending on your business model and expenses.
Think about it this way… you don’t want to end up with DDD boobs when all you really need to feel happy is a solid C. They’ll end up being way more hassle than they’re worth.
So, what do you want this year? How are you going to leverage your business to help you achieve your personal goals?
You don’t need to tell me if you’re planning on getting a boob job… but if you are, congratulations! My 5-year-old self is very happy for you!
Talk soon,
